ISTM 668 Digital Innovation and Information Systems Client-Based Practicum (2) Artificial Intelligence (AI), bioinformatics, blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT), and other emerging technologies are transforming businesses, enabling automation, transactions, and digital agility in transformative ways. The challenge is that these new opportunities continue to create an even more complex co-mingled architecture which is difficult to deploy and secure. This class equips students with a framework and practice in evaluating emerging technologies and solving problems in ongoing deployment. Students will be able to identify and evaluate the key questions leadership should ask as well as an approach that businesses can take to ensure deployment with these new technologies is ethical and strategic. Importantly, at the most fundamental level, these new technologies are transformative in terms of people, processes, leadership, and business outcomes. Executives are discovering that they must be educated in this area to ensure their organizations are successful in strategically addressing the dynamic needs of the globally interconnected business world of the 21st century. The final deliverable in this class will be a use-case scenario demonstrating the identification of upside and downside for deployment of an emerging technology as well as the identifying key controls and attributes for risk evaluation.
