OTMT 623 Managing Cross-Cultural, Diverse, and Inclusive Organizations (4)

This course explores the influences of global cultures and other forms of diversity on organizations, focusing on how managers can foster diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as humane work principles which can also drive competitive advantage. Emphasis is placed on how students can apply principles and theories of equity and inclusion to organizational practices, employing methods for scanning the cultural and other identity-driven assumptions of groups; enhancing awareness of personally held assumptions and values; gaining exposure to the cultures and global business norms of a variety of different nations and groups; and facilitating communication and cooperation amongst diverse individuals. The application of culture and diversity principles to actionable management topics is studied through interactive class sessions, discussions, experiential exercises, self-assessments, presentations, case analyses, simulations, and team projects. By the end of this course, students will have a holistic and practical appreciation of the managerial tools necessary to implement effective practices which can help foster inclusive work cultures where employees feel that they belong.
