Master of Science in Applied Finance (MSAF)
This program is completed in three consecutive trimesters and consists of 38-39 units (with an optional fourth trimester). The degree is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in financial services. Students enrolled in the Graziadio School’s MBA programs are not eligible to apply. Students in the MSAF program have the opportunity to select one of two tracks: Financial Management or Investments .
MSAF Program
The Master of Science in Applied Finance requires 39 units of course work and is offered in two tracks.
Financial Management Track
This track covers topics relevant to a career in corporate finance. It is crafted for those who are interested in a balanced mixture between finance and accounting.

Optional Trimester
In the optional trimester, students may enroll in a practicum course in order to apply their learning and gain additional experience prior to graduation. If a student decides to add this optional trimester, the program length will be a total of four trimesters.
Please note the following Practicum Requirements:
- Students must submit a petition to their Academic Advisor for consideration
- A minimum 3.0 GPA is required to participate
- The Practicum must be 14 weeks in length and full time work
- PGBS 695 Internship (0-8) Internship must be done in the third term of study, with the fourth term requiring full time coursework.
or - PGBS 696 Field Project (0-2) Field Project must be done in the third term of study, with the fourth term requiring full time coursework. Requires a topic and a faculty supervisor; additional per-unit tuition may be required for these options.
or - PGBS 697 Applied Research (2) Applied Research must be done in the third term of study, with the fourth term requiring full time coursework. Requires a topic and a faculty supervisor; additional per-unit tuition may be required for these options.
or - PGBS 691 Study Abroad (0-16) The Study Abroad option is 16 units and therefore requires an additional full term of tuition.
Notes:
- Students must complete career development requirements before registering for the final trimester of study.
- Electives limited to ACCT, DESC, ECNM, or FINC prefix courses.
