LEGL 632 Employment Law (2)


Discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age and disability are illegal under federal and often state law in the U.S. The purpose of this class is not only to introduce the student into a more detailed study of employment law, but also to demonstrate how Rule of Law in the U.S. works. American Rule of Law just might be our best competitive advantage in the 21st century.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. To provide students with an introduction to the history of employment discrimination law in the U.S.
  2. To help students better understand the legal framework of Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act which covers discrimination based on:
    • race and color
    • religion
    • national original
    • sex
  3. To understand the law regarding sexual harassment.
  4. To learn why retaliating against employees who file claims can be a very expensive mistake.
  5. To understand the legal framework of age discrimination and disability discrimination.
  6. To understand the constitutional framework of employment law including an analysis of affirmative action - past, present and future.
